9th Annual Polish Folk Dance Festival

On Saturday, February 6, 2016, members of the Wawel Folk Ensemble performed at the 9th Annual Polish Folk Dance Festival held at the American Polish Cultural Center in Troy, Michigan.

The brainchild of area choreographer, Tomasz Kielar, the Festival serves as a showcase for all metro-Detroit area Polish folk dance groups and is well attended by metro-Detroit's Polonia.  Wawel has performed at this event since its inception.  For the 2016 Festival, Wawel presented its Biłgoraj suite and its Dances from Old Warsaw.

In addition to a great afternoon of dancing, the event was capped off with two dancers from the Dunajec Song & Dance Ensemble getting engaged.  Congratulations!

Miss Polonia World 2016

Wawel's own Paulina Kowalczyk was recently selected as Miss Polonia World 2016.  In 2012 she was selected to as Miss Polonia USA.  She has been an active member of the Wawel Folk Ensemble for the past several years and is currently in the process of completing the 4 year choreography course in Rzeszow, Poland.

Bal Radiowy

On Saturday, January 30, 2016, the Wawel Folk Ensemble performed at the Polish Varieties Radio Program's annual Ball held at the San Marino Club in Troy, Michigan.  For its performance at Bal Radiowy, Wawel presented its Biłgoraj and Sieradz suites and then participated in a grand Polonez which included the guests of the Ball.

For 85 years, Polish Varieties Radio has been on the airwaves in Detroit.  Its current home is on WNZK (680/690 am) in Detroit.  The program features Polish music, news and interviews both from Metro-Detroit's Polonia as well as from Poland and other Polish communities elsewhere in the world.  The program's host is Jurek Rozalski.  Wawel was honored to perform at this event and thanks Pan Rozalski for inviting the ensemble to perform.

Following the performance, guests at the Ball spent the evening dancing to the music of Rytm and Mister System.

Wawel's next public performance is February 6, 2016 at the Annual Polish Folk Dance Festival in Troy, Michigan.
