Polish Heritage Day With the Detroit Pistons

On Sunday, February 22, 2015, members of the Wawel Dancers took to the floor at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills, Michigan as part of the Detroit Pistons' annual Polish Heritage Night.  The event which coincided with the Pistons welcoming the Washington Wizards (and Polish player Marcin Gortat) to the Palace featured Polish dance performances as part of the pre-game festivities.

Wawel along with the PRCUA Gwiazda Dancers, and the PRCUA Zakopane Folk Ensemble each presented several minutes of the Krakowiak on the Palace floor before the game.  Following the performance at the Palace, several Wawel members could be overheard commenting, "that's the nicest floor we've danced on in a while."  Members of the ensemble then stuck around to take in a Pistons win over Washington (106 to 89) with the opportunity for photo shoots on the Palace floor.  Some Wawel members event met Marcin Gortat.

Wawel's next performance is Saturday, 28 February 2015 at the American Polish Cultural Center in Troy, Michigan as part of its annual Polish Folk Dance Festival.

Michigan.  The event, sponsored by Tour de Troit and part of Hamtramck's Annual Count Down to Pączki Day Event, fielded over 1,000 runners, who braved the cold and snow to participate in the event.
Wawel's next public event is on February 22, 2014 when it will participate in the Detroit Piston's Polish Heritage Day at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Pasterka 2014

On December 24, 2014, as is its tradition, members of the Wawel Folk Ensemble participated in the Pasterka Mass procession at Sweetest Heart of Mary Church in Detroit, Michigan.  Wawel has a long history with Sweetest Heart of Mary, participating in processions at the church at both Christmas and Easter as well as performing at their annual Pierogi Festival in August.  Many members of the ensemble are parishoners at the Church and had their weddings take place there.
