Wawel's Weekend Pilgrimage

During the weekend of January 20, 2018, Wawel spent some time on a mini-pilgrimage visiting some of metro-Detroit's historical Polish Churches.

On Saturday, January 20, 2018, Wawel participated in mass at Sweetest Heart of Mary Church in Detroit, Michigan.  The mass featured songs, carols and koledy performed by the Polonaiser Chorale.  Wawel has a long history with Sweetest Heart (going back to the 1970s) and is always happy to participate in one of their functions.

On Sunday, January 21, 2018, Wawel participated in mass at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church in Hamtramck, Michigan.  The mass was coordinated by Radio Maryja and was followed by their annual oplatek dinner.

These two appearances were Wawel's first for 2018.  Please continue to check back with this blog and the group's facebook page for additional performance information.

Pasterka 2017

On Sunday, December 24, 2017, members of the Wawel Folk Ensemble attended and participated in the Pasterka (midnight) mass in Polish folk dress at Sweetest Heart of Mary Church in Detroit, Michigan.

Wawel has a history with Sweetest Heart of Mary Church going back to at least the 1970s.  Wawel performs at the Church's annual Pierogi Festival in August, and participates in the sunrise services on Easter Sunday as well as the Pasterka on Christmas Eve.  In addition to the performances and processions, several members of the ensemble were married at Sweetest Heart of Mary and are current parishioners.

Wawel is currently on its holiday break, but will return to practices in 2018 on January 31.  Please check this blog and the ensemble's facebook page for performance updates and future events.

Happy New Year!
