2016 Central Citizens Committee Pulaski Awards

On Sunday, October 23, 2016, the Central Citizens Committee of Detroit held their 44th Annual Pulaski Awards Banquet.  During the banquet the Committee honors individuals with the Pulaski medal for their commitments and efforts on behalf of Polonia.  Among the 2016 honorees was the Wawel Folk Ensemble's own Basia.

Basia joins Wawel's choreographer, Donna Skurski and director, Tom Skurski who received this award in 1996 and 2006 respectively.

Congratulations Basia.

American Polish Century Club Polish Heritage Performance

On Wednesday, October 19, 2016, members of the Wawel Folk Ensemble were invited to participate in Polish Heritage Month celebrations at the monthly meeting of the American Polish Century Club in Sterling Heights, Michigan.  In addition to celebrating Polish Heritage month, the October meeting also was specially dedicated to members of the clergy and many priests and deacons from nearby parishes attended.

Wawel lead the meeting in the singing of the Polish National Anthem and then performed a suite of dances from Rzeszow.  Following the performance, Wawel members were invited to have dinner with the members before the start of their monthly meeting.

St. John Paul II Polish Heritage Performance

On Sunday, October 9, 2016, members of the Wawel Folk Ensemble participated in Polish Heritage Month celebrations at St. John Paul II Church in Detroit, Michigan (the name for the clustered group of Parishes which includes Our Lady Help of Christians, Transfiguration and St. Louis the King).

Wawel participated in the Church's Polish Heritage Mass and then attended the Polish Heritage Dinner which followed.

Mid-September Performances

On Sunday, September 11, 2016, members of the Wawel Folk Ensemble turned in two performances.  The first performance took place at St. John Paul II Church (former Transfiguration Church) in Detroit, Michigan.  The ensemble performed its Rzeszow, Sieradz and Bilgoraj suites along with its dances from old Warsaw, and the Saxonet polka.

Immediately following the St. John Paul II performance, members of the ensemble headed north to Andiamo's where they were invited to perform at an individual's 90th birthday party.
