Pierogi Palooza

On Friday, June 3, 2016, the Wawel Folk Ensemble performed at the Polish American Congress Michigan Division's Pierogi Palooza.  The event, held at the PNA Hall in Hamtramck, Michigan, featured pierogi with filings that went from traditional (ruskie) to the experimental (cheeseburger).  The event was packed - lines stretched out the hall and rounded the corner onto Belmont street.  Event organizers and volunteers stated that the lines began as soon as the event started.

As part of the event's entertainment, the Wawel Folk Ensemble presented its Rzeszow and Sieradz suites as well as its suite of dances from Old Warsaw.  In addition to Wawel's performance, attendees of the event also saw performances from the Zamek dancers, from the Czarny Dunajec Dance Ensemble and music performances from the Kielbasa Kings polka band and from DJ Accent.

The Event was a huge success and was heavily promoted in local media.  Event volunteers stated that they'd planned for something around 200 attendees; however, as the night progressed, they estimated that they had somewhere upwards of 700 attendees.  At 10:00 that evening, the line for pierogi was still out the hall's doors.

The summer season is now here.  Wawel will be performing at many festivals and events throughout Michigan.  Please check our blog and facebook page frequently for performance updates and event recaps.  We hope to see you at a performance this summer.
