March and Early April Happenings

On Saturday, March 14, 2015, Members of the Wawel Folk Ensemble performed at the American Polish Century Club in Sterling Heights, Michigan's annual Paddy/Joe Party.  The ensemble presented several Polish suites of songs and dances as part of an evening that melded Polish and Irish traditions in honor of St. Patrick and St. Joseph.  In addition to Wawel, the event featured a polka band, as well as Irish dancers and traditional Irish singers.  After the performance, members of the ensemble remained at the party to take in the event.

On Sunday, March 15, 2015, Members of the Wawel Folk Ensemble participated in the annual blessing of the Polish American Folk Dance Ensembles at St. Hyacinth Church in Detroit, Michigan.  This event, which is now over a decade old, which was implemented by St. Hyacinth's pastor, Ks. Francis Skalski, brings together many of the metro-Detroit area Polish folk dance ensembles.  Wawel is proud to have participated in this event since its beginnings.

On Sunday April 5, 2015, Members of the Wawel Folk Ensemble participated in procession at the Easter Resurrection Mass at Sweetest Heart of Mary Church in Detroit, Michigan.  Wawel has a longstanding tradition of participation in Sweetest Heart's events (going back over 30 years).  The ensemble performs yearly at its annual pierogi festival in August and participates in procession on Christmas Eve during the Pasterka ceremonies.  Additionally, many members and alumni of the group were married at the church and continue to be active parishioners.

Please continue to check this blog for upcoming Wawel performances and appearances.
