Dyngus Day Party 2015

While it might not have reached the level of those in Buffalo, New York, members of the Wawel Folk Ensemble were invited to perform at a Dyngus Day Party in Hamtramck, Michigan which was co-Sponsored by the Polish Village Café.

Dyngus Day (or wet Easter Monday) is celebrated throughout Poland and involves boys dousing girls with buckets of water or switching them with pussy willow branches.  The girls then get to douse and switch the boys on Easter Tuesday.

This Dyngus Party may have been a little different.  It featured an umbrella parade (with prizes for the best umbrella), Polish cuisine, beer, music from Big Daddy Lackowski and a performance by the Wawel Folk Ensemble.  For its performance, Wawel performed its Rzeszów and Sieradz suites and then the ladies of Wawel performed Kądziołeczka.  A good time was had by all.

Please continue to check this blog for updates about Wawel performances and appearances in 2015.

The other co-sponsor was Pan Janek Productions.
Wawel Folk Ensemble were truly amazing. They closed their performance with invited guest to dance the Polka with dance company members. The "The Umbrella Parade" went from the Polish Village Cafe to several shops on jobs Campau--thank you mayor--then moving on to Pope John Paul II Park, traveling continued to The Polish Sea League where a brisk water gun squirt off took place and finally ending back at the PVC. Next came "Babcia Jaga's Water Balloon Toss" at the Cafe donated by Kasia. 200 hundred balloons were toss at two opposing teams. We finished off the evening with Grammy Nominated Akordianis Mike Zawojsky.
This day was a complete success. Thank you all!
Pan Janek
