Biłgorajska Ty Ziemico, Ziemio Ukochana!

The waning weekends of August have seen a flurry of activity for members of the Wawel Folk Ensemble.

On Sunday, August 12, 2012, members of the Ensemble performed at the annual Pierogi Festival held at Sweetest Heart of Mary Parish in Detroit, Michigan. During the performance Wawel presented its Kujawiak/Oberek, Krakowiak, Kurpie, and Sieradz suites and then completed its performance with its new polka. After the performance members of the ensemble lingered on the parish grounds and listened to the sounds of the Coachmen Orchestra and sampled various Polish delicacies prepared for the festival.

On Sunday, August 19, 2012, members of the Ensemble performed at the St. Malachy Summer Fest in Sterling Heights, Michigan – an event on Wawel’s performance calendar since 1992. For the performance Wawel presented its Kujawiak/Oberek, Krakowiak, Cieszyn, Kurpie, Sieradz, and Biłgoraj suites. The performance was completed with Wawel’s performance of its new polka. This was the first time that a St. Malachy’s audience saw Wawel’s Kurpie and Kujawiak/Oberek. It also marked the debut performance of Wawel’s newest suite of dances from Biłgoraj.

Wawel still has several appearances planned for the remainder of the summer. Next weekend, the Ensemble will perform at an area wedding. On Labor Day, the Ensemble will appear in the annual Labor Day parade in Hamtramck, Michigan.
