Hamtramck Remembers President Lech Kaczynski

On Tuesday, April 13, 2010, the City of Hamtramck held a memorial service in memory of Poland's President, Lech Kaczynski, Poland's First Lady, Maria Kaczynska and the Polish delegation that died in a plane crash in Smolensk on April 10, 2010.

The service was attended by many Polonian organizations, which included members of the Wawel Folk Ensemble, the PRCUA Gwiazda Dancers, PNA Polanie dancers, members of the White Eagles Soccer Club, the Polish Scouting Organization, Knights of Columbus and veterans' organizations.

The service included invocations led by religious leaders in the Hamtramck community as well as remarks from Hamtramck's police chief, Marek Kalinowski, former Detroit Mayor, Roman Gribbs, Piast Institute President Thaddeus Radzilowski and the Vice Consul of the Republic of Poland from Chicago. Following the service in front of Hamtramck City Hall, attendees processed to Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church for a prayer service.

Wawel joins the rest of Polonia in expressing its condolences on this great tragedy.
