American Polish Century Club - Oplatek Dinner

On Sunday, January 6, 2008, the American Polish Century Club (APCC) in Sterling Heights, Michigan hosted its sixth annual Oplatek dinner.

Upon entering the hall, guests received a traditional Polish welcome with bread and salt. The dinner began with a performance of the Polonez and a polka choreographed by APCC and Wawel Folk Ensemble Member, Tommy Lisiecki. The dance also featured Rachael Kasparek, choreographer of the Zajaczek Ensemble, Stephanie Buchalski, APCC Polish Heritage Queen, Genny Buchalski, APCC Polish Heritage Princess, Monica Szczerbinski, APCC Polish Heritage Princess, APCC members Gus Zielinski and Rich Kolasinski and Wawel Member Nick Nowakowski.

After the dances, the guests shared the oplatek and shared wishes for a healthy new year. Dinner included all the Wigilia favorites: beets, mushroom soup, sledzie, pierogi, naleszniki, mushroom and rice golabki, and tasty desserts.

Between the Wigilia courses, the guests were provided with the origins and meanings behind the Wigilia dishes and traditions. They were also serenaded by the APCC Choir.
