Sw. Jacka Odpust

On Sunday, August 20, 2006, members of the Wawel Folk Ensemble participated in a mass at St. Hyacinth Church in Detroit, MI celebrating the feast of St. Hyacinth and as part of the Parish's year long 100th Anniversary celebration.

Wawel walked in procession during the mass, which was celebrated by Bishop Ryszard Karpinski from Lublin, Poland and was concelebrated by St. Hyacinth's new Pastor, Fr. Janusz Iwan and Pastor Emeritus, Fr. Francis Skalski and several other priests.

After mass, the congregation flocked to the Parish hall for a pierogi luncheon and reception for Bishop Karpinski.

After lunch and a performance by St. Hyacinth's Mens' Choir, under the direction of Larry Surhigh, Wawel performed its Cieszyn and Lubelski Suites for the audience. Wawel selected Cieszyn and Lubelski because St. Hyacinth originated from Silesia near Cieszyn and Lubelski because Bishop Karpinski hails from Lublin, Poland.

After Wawel's performance, Bishop Karpinski thanked the attendees and told several stories including the time he made potato pancakes for Pope John Paul II.
