President Walesa spoke a little about the history of the fall of communism and his role in the Solidarnosc movement. He spoke about how our generation will usher in a new era. We have an unprecedented opportunity to achieve peace and prosperity through technology.
Throughout his speech, it became clear how President Walesa came to lead Solidarnosc and eventually the whole of Poland. He is incredibly charismatic, animated, warm and humourous. In addition to all of those traits, it seemed that he spoke without the aid of notes.
After President Walesa's speech, members of Mott Community College's board of Trustees presented him with an honorary degree from the college.
Before President Walesa's speech, the Mott Community College Jazz Ensemble performed as did the Dunajec Ensemble from Sterling Heights, MI.

While speaking about Pope John Paul II's first visit to Poland as pope, Walesa spoke about how everyone in Poland, even the communists and secret police came to see the pope. He said, "Polish communists were like radishes...red on the outside, but white on the inside."
