Wedding Performance

On Saturday, July 25, 2015, members of the Wawel Folk Ensemble had the great honor of performing at the wedding of one of its alumni members.  Members of the Ensemble assisted the parents of the bride and groom with presenting the newlyweds with bread and salt, as is the cherished Slavic custom, while the choreographer and director of the ensemble provided the guests with the background of this tradition.

Following the presentation of bread and salt, the Ensemble performed the Krakowiak and its Sieradz suite.  The Wawel Folk Ensemble sends warm wishes to the newlyweds as they start their life together.

Wawel’s next public performance is Sunday, August 9, 2015 at the Sweetest Heart of Mary Pierogi Festival in Detroit, Michigan.  Please continue to check this blog and Wawel’s facebook page for schedule updates.

Wawel at 2015 APCC Polish Festival

Members of the Wawel Folk Ensemble took to the stage on Friday July 10, 2015 at the American Polish Century Club of Sterling Heights Michigan’s annual Polish Fest.  Wawel appeared shortly after the Festival’s opening ceremonies and the introduction of dignitaries.

For its performance, Wawel presented its Cieszyn, Biłgoraj and Sieradz suites along with the Krakowiak and the Saxonet polka.  With temps in the low 80s, the performance was much cooler compared to Wawel’s performance at the 2014 APCC Polish Festival which had much higher temperatures and significantly higher humidity.

Following the performance, members of the Ensemble remained at the festival enjoying nationally renowned polka bands as well as Hamtramck’s own, the Polish Muslims all while enjoying the various food and beverage offering provided at the festival.

Wawel’s next public performance will take place on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at the Sweetest Heart of Mary Church Pierogi Festival in Detroit, Michigan.  Please check back with this blog and Wawel’s facebook page as performance information is updated as it is available.
