Wawel at Sweetest Heart of Mary Pierogi Festival

On Sunday, August 10, 2014, the Wawel Folk Ensemble performed at Sweetest Heart ofMary Church in Detroit, Michigan’s annual Pierogi Festival.  Wawel’s performance included its Cieszyn, Kaszëbë, Biłgoraj, and Sieradz suites as well as Kądziołeczka.  For this performance, the ensemble debuted new strój cieszyński.

The Sweetest Heart Festival has been seen increased attendance numbers over the past several years.  This year’s festival was no exception.  Attendance numbers were, no doubt, boosted with the Mass Mob taking place down the street at neighboring St. Albertus Church.

Wawel has a long history with Sweetest Heart of Mary performing at the Pierogi Festival since its inception as well as participating in procession at its midnight mass on Christmas Eve and at its Resurrection Mass on Easter Sunday.  Additionally, many members of the ensemble are parishoners at the parish.

Wawel Performs on Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Campus

On Tuesday, August 5, 2014, the Wawel Folk Ensemble performed on the campus of Orchard Lake St. Mary’s in Orchard Lake, Michigan.  Wawel’s performance was part of the GRIP on the Road event which was sponsored by the Polonica American Research Institute and the Polish Mission.  The performance was featured in a series of events as part of a week-long genealogy conference.

In order to give the event’s attendees a flavor for the different regional dress in Poland, Wawel had each couple attired in a different folk costume to reflect the regional dances that were presented in the performances.  Wawel’s performance consisted of its Kaszëbë, Podlasie, Biłgoraj, Rzeszów, and Sieradz suites.  Between each suites attendees were treated to a mini fashion show in which details of the folk dress, as well as the region were described.

Wawel’s next performance is Sunday, August 10, 2014 at Sweetest Heart of Mary Church in Detroit, Michigan’s annual Pierogi Festival.
